The design idea originates from an interpretation of traditional Chinese buildings and the local landscape: The historic buildings in Hebei province have a clear order
of geometry. The traditional Chinese buildings are defined by a inclined roof, Dou-Gong, column or wall and wide platform. The region has a picturesque mountain landscape in which the buildings are
integrated. We apply the local architecture principles in our design to re-interpret the traditional forms.
The athlete support building at 1770 m altitude integrates linearly all complex functions. The wide platform arrived with a chairlift guides one’s eyes back at the
whole field of play at mountain bottom. The inclined roof, which has a continuous structure, defines the relationship between various spaces, connecting the top station of pulse gondola and a top
building and leading to the Ski Jump Tower.
The arrival point at the valley and seating area originate from the terraces of the local farms and therefore are integrated in the surrounding landscape.
